I picked up a 1958 FD-12 that has been in stotage for some years. I went over the the whole motor and did the basic tune-up. I was going to take prop off to clean, regrease the shaft and paint the prop. I was also going and to relace the cotter pin since the previous owner used a nail which is rusted BUT I cannot remove the prop nut. I have the service manual but it doesn't tell you how to remove the nut. It just syas to remove cotter pin and nut???? Pretty simple?

I am guessing by the parts manual diagram this nut screws on. Is this nut is frozen onto the shaft? Any secrets in removal without damaging anything else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

As I recall the nut is an acorn nut with holes for the cotter pin.
If you got the nail out it should unscrew like any nut.Sometimes a piece of wood is used to hold the prop
while you unscrew the nut. May require penetrating oil and turning the nut both ways.

Steelespike, thanks for the help. I will try to brace the prop. I did use penetrating oil but I have a feeling the previous owner stored the motor with the lower end on the ground or close to the ground because there was mud on the prop and fin. Anyway, I will squirt some more oil in there and put some more elbow grease to it and see if I can break it ree. I just wanted to be careful I didn't damage something else with too much force. Thanks

An impact wrench might work.
Also a drill/driver with the clutch set high might pop it loose.
