Re: 1958 Sea King 5 impeller replacement
1. Remove the cowlings
2. Remove the triangular exhaust cover from the rear of the midsection,
3. Disconnect the fuel hose, and remove the vertical throttle shaft that is at the side of the powerhead.
4. Remove the 7 screws that hold the powerhead to the midsection. Then lift powerhead off.
5. Remove the carbon seal assembly from the top of the drive shaft. These parts are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!! If any are damaged, they must be replaced. In any event, always replace the 303355 gasket and 303347 o-ring.
6. Remove the two nuts from the top end of the shift rod. Note the star washer between them.
7. NOW you are ready to remove the lower unit. Four bolts and slight twist back and forth as you pull it off.
8. The water pump is right in front of you. You do NOT have to remove the pin from the top of the drive shaft. Simply pull the shaft out of the lower unit.
9. It takes the same impeller as a pile of 3, 5, 5.5, 6, and 7.5hp Johnson and Evinrude motors. If the pump housing is shot, you need a whole new water pump kit. That is an upgrade and very different than the original. If it already has been upgraded, disregard the impeller remarks. In that case, it takes a different impeller. You will also need a new 303347 powerhead gasket. No Sierra number for that, you have to get it from an Evinrude dealer.
