I don't know if the year is correct on this motor. The model and serial #'s are 10018/12512. The owner says the shift lever is broken but does shift back and forth between gears. I guess this to be just a parts repair/replacement? He also states that the prop is in good shape but needs replaced because the rubber inside the prop slips. Is the problem he speaks of repairable or will a new prop have to be acquired? Other than that are the motors of this style/model/year worth repairing/restoring? I just want to use it as a runner on a 12FT Flatboat! Thank you for your time and any information will be appreciated!

Ownsbud56

That would be a wonderful motor for that boat. When they run, they run nice! You're correct about the year and Hp. Sounds like the shift lever alongside the hood broke? Common. It shouldn't be too hard to locate a used one, athough it may not paint match. Mix gas/oil at 24:1. Points gap .020", Champion J6C sparkplug gapped .030", Low Speed jet (top of carb) about 1 turn out, High Speed (bottom of carb) bout 3/4 turn out (ballpark settings). The prop can be rehubbed, but a new one would be very little more $$.

Generally these props don't slip, but the drive (shear) pin could be bad.Pull the prop and check. To change the shift handle I think you'll end up removing the powerhead to get at the linkage. Not the end of the world, but a bit costly if you have to pay a shop to do it.I would not buy an engine without a lake test,as well as spark and compression test.

DHP

Thank you for the information! The motor sold before I had a chance to look at it. Thanks again!

Ownsbud
