I recently acquired a nice 5.5 hp seahorse, it would start and die right away. I cleaned a rebuilt the card with an OEM kit, set point gap, new plugs. now wont start at all, seems to be getting fuel but no spark, set points at .20. What are initial settings for carb idle/air screws? I set them at 1 1/2 out to start. What am I missing, flywheel and coil were clean not rusty ect

Are there any cracks in the coils ?-------Are coils " new looking " on this motor.------Points must be absolutely clean.----Good spark will easily jump a gap of 1/4" or more.

Start with a compression test before spending any money. Always.

compression on the 5.5hp will be around 75 to 95 or so, and should be equal between cylinders.

If compression is good, test the spark on an adjustable, open gap tester. set the gap to 1/4" as mentioned above. Should jump that with a bright blue ZAP!! If not, time to look to the ignition system.

The low speed needle (top one) gets set to 1.5 turns out from seated. The low speed (bottom needle) is 3/4 out from seated. Then fine tuned once on the water.
