I bought a 12 ft aluminum fishing boat with a 1959 Johnson seahorse QD - 20 first time I took it out the boat ran great, the second time I took it out could not get it to stay running and idle. Brought it home clean the carb took it back out the third time and I can get it running if I put it in gear give it a little throttle and pull the cord. It will run until it runs out of gas like that but will not idle. Also I do not get to travel very far on the water at all and I'm running out of gas. Any suggestions? Also the last time I was out I broke this bracket does anybody know what it is? And where do I get one?

What is is, is it holds the lower shroud mounts, and also is the attachment point for remote control shift cable (if using remote controls). Part number 306155, seems to be obsolete.

Do those older motors have fuel pumps on them, or is it the two line pressure fuel tank?

qd 20 is listed as pressure tank engine unless modified....to pump..

assuming carb is clean and adjusted.....

running out of fuel is indicative of loss of pressure to push the fuel back to the carb , hand pumping the primer button should confirm this as it will refill the carb filter bowl and carb .

possible dirty fuel pick-up in the tank

filter bowl could be in need of service ( remove the 0303133 - Filter Element
filter unit for a try)

loss of pressure can be leaky tank or simply not enough air pushed into the tank..
possible faulty check valving behind the carb plate (rare) .

check all hose connections ( side connector and tank) for leaks

good air presure should cause a PSSSSST if the tank cap is open while running
