i just got this motor, was told it was runing 2-3 years ago. guy i bought it from didnt need it so he put it in his shed. with fresh gas it started on second pull and runs great. question w/ water pump is how much water should it be spitting out? i am new to outboards. the bigger hole up high spits a good amount of water, what are the two small holes below for?? they have water just trickling out? should i replace the impeller or is it ok for now?

My rule of thumb is that if you have to ask, replace it. Seriously, if it's more than 3 years old, put a new one in. It may be pumping well now, but an old impeller can crack and fry a motor in short order. New impeller is cheap insurance....

Not exactly sure what two small holes you are speaking of, but they are probably drain holes. The important one is the big hole that blows water out with some exhaust.

I agree, change the pump whether it needs it or not, then relax. You go out in the boat to enjoy things other than watching water blow out a hole and worrying that it is going to stop.
