Looks like all the searches I have done in this forum for people requesting diagrams for hose routing goes unanswered (accept for the look in an owners manual). Seems like the manuals don't cover this area in the least. Has anyone who's sucessfully figured out the routing happen to draw a diagram? A diagram is worth a thousand words. Could someone please post it or send it to me at sean_wolf@dadebehring.com

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 1960 40HP Hose Routing

Hoses on a 1960 40 hp. I don't have a photo or diagram, but there aren't that many hoses to deal with, if I remember correctly. I don't have that engine any longer, or I'd take a photo.

There's a hose from the fuel connection that goes to the inlet side of the fuel pump. There's a hose from the output side of the fuel pump that goes to the carburetor, and a hose that goes to the nipple on the engine block that operates the diaphragm for the pump. That's my recollection.

The pump fitting on the left side, as you look at the engine from the front is the hose that goes to the nipple on the engine.

On the bottom of the pump, the left fitting is the hose that goes to the carburetor fuel inlet. The right fitting is the hose that goes to the fuel connector on the front of the engine.

I can't think of any other hoses.

I hope that helps.

One other note: You really do need a manual. The Seloc manual #1300 covers your engine. It's not as good as the factory manual, but it's a heckuva lot cheaper. I just looked up the information I gave you in that manual, which also covers all one and two cylinder Johnson and Evinrude outboards from 1956-1970.

You do need a manual, and that one's available right here on iboats. It will save you lots and lots of time.

just went and looked at my 1959 35hp (basically the same engine) and cat is correct about fuel hose routing. look at the fuel pump body there are lables stamped near each nipple to tell you what goes where. The one labled pressure is the hose that goes to the bypass cover on the port side of the engine.
The only other hose on the engine is the vaccuum switch. That hose is connected to the vaccuum switch at one end and a nipple located on the intake manifold between the carb and the starter on the other end.
hope this helps

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Wish me luck as I will try to start her for the first time since I bought her this month. I'm not sure when she was last running but the boat had a registration sticker from a few years ago.
