1960 5.5hp carb problem

Just took out my Johnson 5.5hp to get ready for the fishing season. It took a few pulls to fire and burn out the fogging oil and it only seems to run with the choke pulled out. The carb was rebuilt last year and everything was fine. When I put her away last fall I ran it out of fuel so no gas was left in the system. Any thoughts?::

having to run with the choke out, points to fuel delivery problem. fuel pump, vent not open, air leak in fuel system. clogged carb.

Or unfortunately maybe more carb issues, but as Tasha says it's definitely a fuel issue.

How do I check the fuel pump?
