1960 75 hp seahorse shifter shaft help

I need to replace my shifter seal and need to know how to get the shifter rod out of the lower unit (which is off of the unit) After that is removed, how do people remove the beveled brass bushing at the top of the o ring? Thanks

You have to separate the upper/lower gearcase sections. You will see the connection when you get them about an inch apart.

You don't have to remove the bushing. Snag the old o-ring out with a home made hook, squeeze the new o-ring and shove it into the groove below the bushing.

You will need a new seal between the upper/lower gearcase sections (it is a large o-ring)
