You installed an automotive ignition switch didn't you? You will fry your new coil too, if you connect it to that switch. You need a switch made for magneto igniton systems.

I got the same ignition that was on the boat and then matched up the wires, but not sure if i did more damage than the coil magneto is it possible that there is more damage than that i disconnected the battery till i can figure out the problem and was planning on putting a fuse on that wire to protect the new coil when i test the ignition by the way it is a 6 point ignition is there a special magneto switch and where would i find it

If I remember correctly, it should be a 4 pole switch. 2 poles are normally open in off and close (have continuity) when you turn it to start for the start curcuit. The other two poles are normally closed (have continuity) when the switch is off and are open when the switch is on, these are the magneto ground curcuit that shuts the motor off. Hope that helps. You probably just accidently hooked power from the start hot pole to the magneto coil pole and...... well, you know the result.

The only other thing you could have damaged is the condenser. When you verify the wiring, clean and gap the points and install the new coil, and have no spark, you may suspect the condenser.
