Hey all, first time posting. This past week I bought an old 18 hp Evinrude Fastwin 15032 and have since replaced coils, condensers, points, plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, carb float and needle, and various seals. Got the motor running on first pull every time now but I have been running it in a tank and have noticed a few things I’m not used to as I’ve never ran a two stroke. One is there is an excessive amount of oil/sludge in the tank and on the prop/lower unit. Another is a foamy/oil stream coming out of the water drain hole after running the motor. Finally is a slightly dark lower gear oil after only running for about 10 minutes. Are these things normal? I still need to get gaskets first the lower unit fill plugs. Thanks all.

Stuff in the water tells me the motor might not have been run for a while -- also that the air/fuel mix might be a little rich. Foamy stuff from the drain hole is unburned fuel/water. Oil drained from the gearcase indicates there is some water in the case. Replace the plug gaskets, fill and run again. Then check.

Oily residue in water is normal. As stated, water intrusion could be from faulty drain and vent plug washers. Did you replace other seals in the gearcase?

The o-ring on the shift rod is often overlooked / forgotten.-----It is a major source of leakage if the o-ring is 50 years old.
