Started trying to reseal my lower unit on my old 18hp Fastwin last night but could not for the life of me get the shift rod bushing out. Tried several methods found online but nothing worked. Ended up threading a bolt into the bushing about a 1/4 inch. My question is will this bushing be okay to reinstall as is or is it needing replaced after messed it up pretty good? Also, are there other sealants besides 3M 847 that people use for outboards, specifically the skeg?

I've reused them like that. Your choice, I guess.

The brass bushing is a method of creating the space for the o-ring.---Really does nothing except hold the o-ring in place.-----Some will argue but ,that o-ring can be replaced without removing the bushing.
