I have recently acquired a 1960 Johnson 3HP motor which has been stored for an undetermined amount of time. I cleaned up the magnets and points and it fired right up. I do have it in water and am unable to find a water discharge point. No I have not operated on the water pump yet and don't know what it looks like in there. Can anybody tell me if there is a water discharge point and where it is located?
Thanks.

It is a small square port on the front side (boat side) of the leg, about midway up. A spray of water should come out of it.

Answer was spot on, thanks for the help. It seems it even has a thermostat somewhere.

Hi F4W. Here's a link to a complete parts catalog with exploded diagrams of your motor. I don't think your particular model has a t-stat, but checkout the catalog to be sure. If it does have one, they're super simple to install. You just take out the old one and drop on the new one. Only takes about 5 min and costs about $15 right here at iboats.

Thank you so much for the help. That parts book is phenomenal. Once I have it all figured out I'll look you up for what it needs.
