I got a 1960 Johnson motor with original 6 gal tank, but without the fuel line between the tank and motor, is a single line setup.
The problem is the fuel line I got is a Yamaha 5/16 fuel line with connectors, my understanding was that it should fit Johnson connectors to.
The fuel line is leaking at the mating surface I can t get the fuel in the hose by pressing the bulb, only some fuel leaks at the tank connector, even do the line snaps in.
My question is what kind of connector I need 5/16 or 3/8 it seems that the fuel line I have is not the perfect fit connector wise.
I am lost, can you guys please point me to the right direction?
Do I need a special cable for 1960 fear motor and gas tanks?

Re: 1960 tank fuel connector

Not sure about the Yamaha connectors, I thought they are different. Metric?

Anyhow, see those little pins that get pushed in by the fuel connector on the Johnson tank? See the one that has a little brass washer around it? Behind that washer is a tiny o-ring. If the o-ring is worn or deteriated, it will leak fuel through there. It will also suck air if you do get it to run and/or while trying to prime it.

There are also two more o-rings deeper in the tank housing. The stuff all comes out by removing the two core plugs on the back side. Be aware that there are two sizes of the one behind the brass washer, depending on the year the tank was made.

Imported FR thank you very much for your response, I am a litlle confused do, yes I see the pins you are talking about ( I don t know their purpose do) under them is a brass piece to keep the connector in place, then under it is the gas brass connection, neither brass pins have any kind of washers on them and the symptom is exacly what you described when I try to prime the line air gets inside it.

We have both Yamaha and OMC's at work and the connectors, while similar, do not match. Go to Walmart, your local marina or any place marine parts are sold and pick up an OMC connector.
