Hello All,

I was wondering about how much water should be peeing out of the 40 H.P. Outboard? I recently changed the impeller and ran it for the first time in a pail of water and it took a little bit of time for the thermostat to open. I knew when it opened because I shut the motor off and opened the thermostat housing to see that the themostat had indeed opened. I then put the water jacket back on the thermostat and restarted the motor. It ran for a little bit of time and then started to spray water out of the "pee" hole. It was a light spray and got a little bit stronger but did not actually turn into a steady stream of water like my 1978 Mercury 7.5 horspower does. Do you think I installed it wrong? I let it idle for about 15 to 20 minutes and there was no change...is it good enough to run on open water full throttle. I mean it sprays my hand wet in a few seconds, but is it enough to cool the engine off? Should I have let the motor run longer than 20 minutes to see if it sprayed better or more?
