1961 Johnson 75 hp Alternator overcharging

My charging system is the alternator type and is overcharging so bad it bogs down the motor, i have tested everything and replaced the voltage regulator. one thing i noticed is that i am getting 12 volts in the blue field wire at the regulator, does anyone have any ideas?

Your question is a little vague...how do you know the charging system is bogging down your motor. I was thinking that motor had a generator, not an alternator...enlighten us with some more information and someone should be able to help...just a thought

what is the voltage it is putting out? what is the battery voltage (wothout it running) if the generator is pulling that hard on the engine then something is demanding a large amount of current. I think these only put out about 10 amps at max charge.
