I have a 1961 75 hp johnson and it just died. to sum it up i was riding along and it would hesitate to pick up. It wouldnt accelarate and even wide open it could barley move. it just seems kind of funny because last time i took it out it seemed to run better then ever and gave no indication that there was any underlying problem. I do have repair manual and parts manual. What do you guys suggest i check first? Does this sound like a fuel pump issue possibly? you can see fuel in the eye glass and it doesnt seem to go past there.

I dont know if the 75hp is like our 1965 60 hp was, but sometime, when we removed the cab, the carburator/timing linkage tilt 180 degres and after that no acceleration at all. We have to remove the cab, replace the linkage and be careful by replacing that heavy cab and voila, the problem was solved

laingsoutboards.com has most everthing for that motor. when you say died. did it just cut off like turning the key, or did it rev up and not move or did it just slowly slow down. also any history and maintainance done.

jdoenumber2..... What amount of time passed between the time the engine ran fine and when you encountered this problem?
