I was just given a 61 JW17 that I put on my 12ft jon boat. It runs so much better that the 82 4hp Johnson that I have, I want to use the 61 instead. The JW17 has a 2 blade prop and was wondering if anyone knows if you can fit a 3 blade to it to give a little more top end speed.

Re: 1961 jw-17 prop swap.

Welcome,The standard prop on the weedless gear case angled drive is a 6 1/8 X 6 1/4" prop.
The straight drive uses a 8" diameter 3 blade.
The 2 blade will do fine. The 2 is the most efficient prop design though a 3 blade is more versatile.
If you rig up a tiller extension so you can get on the middle seat the boat may plane. If your
really heavy it will still help speed but may not plane.
Go on you tube use "2hp jon boat" The 2 hp actually planes.Of course a very light boat and driver.
