A friend of mine has 2 of these old motors. He says they are '62's but I haven't been able to find any information on them. I was wondering what model number these would be. He says they both ran great 8 years ago, but haven't been started since. One is missing the top cover and both come with new tanks. He wants $25 a piece for them. I am wondering if this is a good deal (I'm pretty sure it is) and how much and how easily I can find a cover for it if I do buy them. I would be looking to fixing them up and trying to re-sell them. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A 1962 10 hp Johnny would be model QD-23.

They were good engines 45 years ago.

If you can do all the work your self , and the power head's are sound, they make great little fishing motors. You will more than likely need coils, condensers, points, and water pump. These motors are not at all difficult to work on, and you can still get parts.

Re: 1962 10 HP Johnson Sea Horse

Hey guys thanks for the help. I went and checked them out this morning. One is a '62 and the other is a '61 I believe. I picked them both up for $45. Been playing around with them for a few hours now. They both started and ran for a few seconds then died. Looks like I need to replace everything you mentioned. But the power heads look to be in pretty good condition. Gonna run a compresion test on them today after class. Any ideas what a top cover for the '62 would cost me, and where I can find one? Thanks again.
