i had the motor off my boat over the winter. took the controls off the boat as well and put them in the garage. got around to re-assembly and this time the throttle is very hard to move up and down.

i have two separate levers, one for the shifter and one for throttle. shifting still feels normal.

And i know i need to be in forward gear to use the full throttle range. i really have to force it. at the motor i can disconnect the cable and move the "knob" or lack of a better term pretty easily. so i know i have it narrowed to the cable. I bet I spent an hour adjusting the controls at the motor mount with nothing to show for it.

Do these cables become nearly unusable if they are bent in too sharp an angle? I have a bad feeling it may have been bent over the winter but I cant see any damage or kinks anywhere.

Thanks!
Steve

Kink, yes. Also, if you happen to have the old rubber covered cables, they were not the greatest way back when. Even worse now. Replace it with the new plastic covered ones and be amazed at the difference. Type 400 cable, here at iboats.

EDIT: When replacing the old rubber covered cable with the newer style, you will have to change the "lock" that holds the outer cable sheath to the motor, because the new cable has an adjustable nut in that location. Old one just had a non-adjustable brass trunnion.
