I plan on taking this to our cottage next week but havnt had this motor out before. I will clean the carbs and change the oil. The imepllor is fine. If it pumps water and runs ok is there anything else i should look out for?

Did these motors have any problems? Starting etc??

Let me know, any input is very appriciated. Thanks again, Neil

Make sure you use the correct oil in the gearcase or it won't shift. It was called type C, but a few years ago I believe it was relabeled as 'premium blend'. As for gas oil, use a GOOD TC-W3 oil, preferably Evinrude/Johnson or Mercury. Mix it at 24:1

Type C, which has been rensmed 'Premium Blend' is the only oil to use in that gearcase. NO, you can not use the Mercury oil unless it is labeled for electric shift, which mercury never had any of.

I know a lot of people say you can but... In 1964 when omc switched to 50:1 all the engines were designed for it meaning all had anti friction bearings on the crankshaft and on both ends of the connecting rods. Some pre64 engine were the same, however some were using friction bearings(bushings), these require more oil.

Electric shift motors were 40hp and larger and all those motors had "anti-friction" bearings. You can use 50:1 safely in your '62 outboard.
