Piece of cake. Remove the oval plate on the side of the midsection. Inside you will find the shift rod connector. Remove the lower screw friom it. Then remove the 4 small bolts and one big one that hold the gearcase on. Twist back and forth slightly as you pull the gearcase down and off. The water pump is right there looking at you where the drive shaft goes in.

When reinstalling, make sure the o-ring at the top of the drive shaft is in good condition, or use a new one. Smear a bit of waterproof marine grease on the splines. A bit more grease or a squirt of oil to lube the water tube grommet in the pump. Important: Use a flashlight to peer in there and make darn certain that the notch in the shift rod aligns perfectly with the screw hole in the shift rod connector before installing the screw. If the screw drags on the notch it will wipe the threads off the screw every time, then it will fall out 5 miles from the dock.

Gale, Buccaneer, Outboards were made from left overs from johnson, evinrude. So to find some parts you can search omc stuff a year or two or three... older than your unit you do need a little knowledge of what your looking for. Best of luck in your efforts. Bill
