1963 75 hp johnson tach

Hi i have a 1962/63 75hp johnson outboard model# V4A-V4AL-14 battery ignition and was woundering if i could use an automotive tach seeing as how the ignition looks very similar to a car ignition same coil any help would be great <br /><br /> thanx

I don't know. I didn't think any Johnsons of that vintage had battery-based ignition.<br /><br />Here's a clue, though. Click Edit Post on your original message and change the title to give the year and hp of your engine. That way, someone who knows that engine will pop in and help you. Otherwise, that person might miss your question. The more info in the title, the better your response.

Unless the automotive tach is calibated for a 2 stroke motor it will be reading way off. Cars are nearly always 4 strokes (Saab being an exception)
