1963 Chrysler Tiller arm

Unfortunately, somehow my outboard was dropped and the part of the tiller arm that is bolted to the outboard snapped. This may be a stupid question, but what kind of metal is this? And can I just get it welded back together?

It is aluminum and yes, it can be welded. However, you need to get a welder with skills otherwise the joint will be sloppy and weak. Look on ebay or check with franzmarine@aol.com for another arm--it will probably be cheaper than getting yours welded,
