Hey fellas, Been a little bit since i have last posted. I have done a lot of work on my Rude and will post pictures when I get to them since my last computer took a crap on me and lost most of my files.
anyways, I did end up getting my motor running and she did start up with no issues. What leads me back to the forum to get some additional feedback regarding what I am dealing with is the engine sounds and appears to be running at a high RPM with the gear in NEUTRAL position and the throttle in LOW SPEED.

I am experiencing some smoke as well coming from the lower unit as well as from what appears to be the cylinder heads where the spark plugs are screwed into.
( Apologize in advance ) for maybe some lack of general knowledge of terms, I did do a lower unit gear oil change with new gear oil as well.

I have been told from a local business that the only way to tune the Star-flight series engines is to tune them in full throttle? IS THIS CORRECT? and if so,
my question is the two black nozzles on the face of the carb once all the way closed to the left how many turns or maybe an 8th maybe 1/4th of a turn to the right?

this is what I am concerned with. any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thank you guys and hope to hear from some of you professionals.

The knobs are to adjust idle fuel mixture, NOT idle rpm. If it is running at high rpm, you need to find out what's wrong or incorrectly adjusted concerning the throttle link & sync. Only then, can you adjust the idle mixture (two knobs). To do that, have the motor warmed up, thermostat working, and make sure that stupid automatic choke is fully open, and hood is on the motor, motor on a boat, on the lake. Begin with them about at turn open and adjust a bit at a time for best idle. Close the door on the hood so it pulls warm air from inside.

I would ignore thal local business !------------The low speed needles are adjusted when motor is idling in gear.-----Turn each one in until motor starts to sneeze then back it out for smooth idle and smooth acceleration.---------Also the motor has a hot water choke and the thermostat / vernatherm must be working properly.---------Note----- that black lever on the needle may need to be repositioned to get your results.

Thank you very much, I have been running the motor without the engine cowl over the motor, should I not continue to do that and for now on start the motor only when the cowl is attached over the engine?
I do live in a cold climate state so I am anxiously waiting for the warmer temperature to arrive maybe in the next 4-6 weeks. When I go pick up the boat ill get right to working on it and post the results back as soon as i can.
I appreciate the help, thank you so much.

Running without the cowl won't actually hurt anything, but as I indicated, you need it on to properly adjust the carburetor.

Also engine need to be in a barrel or lake as it needs backpressure, you cannot adjust correctly on water hose.....
