I believe that the part is called a pivot rod or bolt. It is the carriage bolt (about 10-12 inches long) that the engine pivots on when manually tilting it out of the water. I'm doing a complete rebuild now, and I noticed that mine is bent. This might explain why it has been so dang difficult to tilt! I tried to straigten it with a vise and also with a hammer but to no avail. I can take it to a shop next week if necessary. Is this bolt a standard carriage bolt that I could find at a hardware store? This route would be the cheapest and easiest. I put a magnet on it and it is definitely ferrous, and it doesn't look like stainless, so I'm guessing it's galvanized.

Think you want a tilting bolt, #307226. Try Sea-Way in Seattle.

That's a heavy motor, so I would think you would need a #8 hardness. You might find something at a truck repair terminal.

I swung by the hardware store and bought a 12" galvanized carriage bolt. It looks to be very similar. Even the squared section under the head looks to be the same. The original is about a quarter inch longer. I didn't have the nut with me to see if it fits on the end of the new bolt. I can use this new bolt temporarily to mount my engine on my homemade stand while I rebuild. I am somewhat concerned about the strength of the bolt, so I will probably get the original straightened at a shop.
