New to the forum. Just bought a 1963 Glassmaster. I have enclosed a pic. I plan to restore over some time and I'm sure I wil need some advice along the way. The boat is very solid with no soft spots etc Except the transome is soft that that will be the first project. I plan to reinforce with marine ply and glass etc... Also will add a steel plate. Thanks Mike

Re: 1963 Glassmaster

Welcome to the forum. Neat little boat you've got there. What motor will power it?

Unfortunately it sounds like you plan to "band-aid" the transom and we aren't fans of that on this site. The proper way to repair it is to remove the top cap (the red part) of the boat to gain access to the rotten plywood inside the transom. Clean it out and the fiberglass in a new sheet(s) of wood. There are tons of threads about it in the restoration section. From personal experience, the rotted wood in the transom will continue to compress and it'll leak around all the fasteners you use for the band-aid-ing so you're better off properly replacing it.
