I'm having a hard time getting the motor started and when it does it wil run for a bit at close to full throttle and then shut down, sometimes with a backfire. The hose that go from the side wall of the piston chamber to the fuel pump also kept coming off but when I clamped it down a hole blow in it after a few seconds of running, and then it shut down again. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

RDS-25 is a 1963. The first thing you need to check is the compression. The second thing you need to check is spark. Should jump a 1/4" gap with ease (both wires). Laying the plugs on the block and checking for spark jumping the plug gap is NOT a valid test. Neither is holding the wire in your hand and see if your eyeballs light up. Poor spark means the flywheel needs to come off to see why. Backfiring may be a clue that the flywheel key is sheared because some yeahoo had it off and didn't clean it or torque it to 100-105 ft lbs. Bad/cracked coils are common.

The hose drives the fuel pump and has to be reinforced, heat resistant hose. Fuel line for fuel injection cars should be ok.
