1963 MERC IMPELLER

I am thinking about buying what the guy says is a 50hp merc 1963, he says he put a new water pump in and it worked great for ten minutes, then stoped pumping water out then he shut it off and hasnt messed with it. he says the impeller might be slipping on the shaft but when i looked at oldmercs.com they said the 63s where white and this ones all black like the 64 is. any advice on this? hes selling it for 125.00

If--
it didn't overheat, and;
compression and spark are good. and;
LU is good, no water in oil, shifts well, and;
powerhead doesn't make ugly bearing noises, then:

$125 seems like a pretty good price to me. If the motor has a fatal problem you could probably recapture that parting it out.

Impeller key/pin could be missing, or a hunk of crud could be blocking the water flow.

I agree. Check compression and lower unit fluid. If nothing else, you can get at least that much back from the lower unit.. He might have just installed the impeller with the vanes turned the wrong way. Simple fix...
