1964 35 hp mercurey doesnt **** water why?

does anyone know if a 1964 35 hp merc outboard is supose to **** water like the new motors do or does it go out the prop housing??? please help

It should pee. However the water passage might be blocked. Mine was,(1961 FGS 800) yet it ran fine and didn't get hot to the touch on the engine block. After a while mine worked free and now pee's. I think its on the port side of the motor, just on the underside of the bottom cowl.

i think ive found thepiss hole its right at the bottom of the housing where it gets smaller just under the motor.
it wasw full of dirt to i cleaned it out with a piece of wire but havent tryed it in the water yet thanks alot..
also the starter turns the wrong way when i try to start it with the key, when i turn the gear by hand the other way it pops right up into place but as i said i turns the wrong way and just spins help please

Sounds like the starter is wired in backwards, or possibly the battery is hooked up wrong.

Turning the gear by hand will be "backwards" of the direction the starter motor spins... Starter motor runs counter clockwise to turn the flywheel clockwise.

the starter spins in the correct direction(counter clockwise) but does not pop up into the flywheel???:confused:

Poor battery and or dirty connections. Could also be a bad solenoid. Solenoid contacts get burnt and no longer pass sufficient current to spin the starter fast enough. Possibly a bad starter motor. Going direct to the starter motor with the battery wires will help prove the motor. Make sure all connections are cleeeen.
