I am looking for advice.

I bought a 1964 75hp Evinrude with the 5inch extension in and its to long for my transom. It sits to far in the far and makes driving the boat not enjoyable. I know it has the 5 inch extension in it. I having a hard time finding the short shaft to swap it out. so I can take out the extension. Does anyone have the short shaft they would sell?? Also If I can find it for sale. Could I just take my long shaft to a machinist and get him to cut it down and respline it? Would that work the same. If so what would be the actual length to tell him to cut it to? Thanks for your help.

Look in the "Top Secret File", there is a list of salvage yards there, give some of them a call and see if they can help you out. I would think to have the shaft cut and resplined would be expensive.

You could also try Dan Gano at ganotech.com. He has a lot of new and used OEM stuff and is reasonable to deal with.

I recently bought a boat with a '65 evinrude 90s outboard that looks like the previous owner added the long shaft to a short shaft motor. In the transom well was all the original parts with 3 shafts. One is the original long shaft and 2 are short. I will check them out closer to see if they are what you will need. You will also have to modify the cooling tubes, or find used ones for the short shaft motor.
