Im back just making sure .020 is right, because i have the battery ignition with plug wires coming out the side of dist. This engine is awesome i love the oldies and thank all the guys and girls who made these things.Anyone know about the timing sync how to? The oil mixture i heard 24to1 been running 50to1 though.Should i add lead to the gas?I have this on the original Shell Lake boat from 1964 nice combo for fishin and foolin around.I love being on the water its all that matters 2 me.Thanks to all who read all this.

yup point gap of .020.as for adding lead to the gas its not necessary as far as im concerned ,im running several old motors for decades on unleaded with no ill effects.this is right out of my 1939 speeditwin manual,"USE A GOOD GRADE OF REGULAR GASOLINE.HIGH OCTANE OR LEADED FUEL GIVES NO ADVANTAGE."got any pics of the boat and motor ?share with us.

People used to go out of their way to find "marine white" gas--unleaded. Nowadays, it is all unleaded so you don't have to hunt for it anymore.

Points gap is .020". Good enough. However, the more accurate way to set them is with the timing marks. The complete procedure is too big to post here. You really should invest in a factory service manual. www.outboardbooks.com

If you're referring to link and sync, you better get a manual to read and re-read the procedure. Timing on the other hand is just a matter of getting the belt on with the timing marks aligned; one on the flywheel aligned with the one on the top of the motor and the distributor mark aligned with the safety switch.
