Just picked up a 64 Johnson 9.5 that is not wanting to start. Put in new points, condensers, and coils. Took carb apart and looks pretty clean. It gets gas every once in a while. The longest it has run for was 10 seconds then it dies...Any ideas? Thanks!

Define: "it gets gas once in a while"?

You need three things to run:

1. Spark.

2. Compression.

3. Fuel.

Per your comments, we need to head to #3>

I hand crank the flywheel to get more gas from the fuel pump and it runs every once in a while after I do that. I believe that it is getting more gas when I crank the flywheel by hand. Thats when I believe that it is getting its gas once in a while.

Sounds like fuel delivery, have you tried to pump the fuel line bulb to see if it will keep running?

If you trying to say that the spark plug threads in the head arn't good, take it to a machine shop and let them install a heli-coil for you.
