I have the opportunity to pick up a 1964 "Johnson Sweet '16" boat c/w a 1964 Johnson 90hp Electramatic model V4ML-10S for about $200 - $300. The motor looks to have been well maintained and supposedly has reasonably good compression (within 12 lbs between all cylinders.) Is this too good to pass up, or am I asking for headaches when I want to have fun? Also, can someone tell me what correct compression should be?

P.S. - The boat hull is actually in good shape except for the plastic windshield and seats.

What are the compression numbers? Does it run/cool/shift/charge? If you can pick the boat and motor up that cheap, and it runs, you're doing OK in my book. Keep the investment low enough, and even if it only makes it a season you won't get burned too badly. A rig that vintage must have a few headaches involved sooner or later, but it should certainly be fun.
