well i have checked the carby and all seems fine<br />now onto the timing have lined up timing marks on motor but marks on dissy dont line up could these have moved could the belt slip where should the dissy be when lining up these marks as the dissy moves with the throttle with the power on all the way the marks are no where near each other any clues guys <br />1964 Johnson v4 a 16 d Ian

The belt could slip ,but if so you would see some signs ,slack belt ,worn/missing teeth on the belt .<br /><br />When checking the timing always rotate the engine clockwise .<br />According my books this engine could have battery or magneto ignition , which one does you have ?<br />Battery = plug wires ontop<br />Magneto = plug wires under distributor <br /><br />The best way to adjust it ,is by the manual .<br />If you don't have any try this one from this forum<br />Read and understand the postings from Joe Reeves .

thank you for your reply <br />timing is ok im haveing all sorts of problems now wont start at all had the carb of again and this time it wont start all all well it starts then dies right away dont know where to turn now

Hi aurora....the reason the timing marks do not line up at WOT is that the distributer timing advances as the throttle is advanced. Normal thing. This fires the spark plugs at the best time for different throttle ranges.<br /><br />If the engine starts and dies, try spraying some pre-mix (fuel/oil) into the carbs and see if this keeps the engine running. If so, the problem lays in the ignition.<br /><br />Keep us posted.
