My buddy and I have acquired a 1964 Johnson V4AL-16D 75HP in a Glass Master Boat.
We got it all ready and went to put it in the other day and the damn thing would go in reverse, but not drive. I am guessing that we need to replace the electric shifter?
I know little about boats, lots about working on car engines. I am pretty handy, but I am looking for a little advice from others who know more specifics on boats. Thanks!! Michael

There are are 2 shift wires going into the lower unit on the port side of the power head.light blue, forward, light green reverse.disconnect the leads at the
quick connect.Check for 7-8 ohms to ground with a vom.
remote unit has a hot wire from the "A" terminal on the key switch.pretty simple one switch for forward one for forward.Neutral is unenergized.
A factory service manual is worth its weight in gold.
