i installed a new impeller, water stream is strong when shaft is turned with a drill. The problem is when the water shoots out, it comes out in two places, the hole it is supposed to (that connects to the copper wire) and I took the copper wire out of the “leg” of the outboard and put it in the hole to make sure the copper tube wasn’t clogged, but then water started coming out by the drive shaft, almost like it was squeezing past the wear plate or something. It was just one place so I’m not sure if that is supposed to happen. Sorry if that’s a bit confusing, hoping someone can help

I do not believe you should take the copper water tube out of the leg.-------You may now have to remove the powerhead for a proper re-installation.

There is normally a vent slot in the plate in the vicinity of the driveshaft, where water is drawn up. The shaft through the plate has no gasket or grommet, so probably also a source. I don't recall checking, but suppose both sources would vent water up the opening in the housing. (The driveshaft seal down in the housing under the plate is meant to keep the oil in the case, and water out -- different issue.)

Don't forget the O-ring at the top of the driveshaft (keeps water out of the splines at the powerhead).

Mine does not have an O ring or even a groove to install one

But the 1964 parts book shows an o-ring at the top of the driveshaft.--------So what is the model # of this motor and post pictures of top of driveshaft if you can.
