I have a 1965 johnson 9.5 hp. I just got my carb kit today and I have some questions. I am planning to take the welch plugs out and don't know what type of sealer to use to put the new ones back in. I have some permatex 1B form a gasket sealant. fast drying hard setting. It says it resists gasoline and oil. Would it be ok to use. The next question is about the round screen and round gasket included with the kit. Is this for the fuel pump. If so I guess you just take out the old and put in the new. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sealer isn't strictly necessary, but it can be a good idea. Just put it on real thin (or even after the welsh plug is installed) so there's no possibility a chunk of it will break off and clog a passage.
1b would be just fine for that application.

I'm not sure about the screen and gasket. If they look like they're the right ones, might as well change them out.

My next question might be a dumb one but I better ask it anyway. The old needle did not have a spring attatched, the new one does. The seloc manual doesn't mention the spring. Should I attatch the spring to the float or not?

I like to. The rubber tipped needles have a habit of sticking in the seat sometimes, and the spring (which holds it to the float) will pull it out if that happens. When the needle sticks, the engine will surge.

Hey Paul, one more thing I pulled out the low speed neddle and there is a black ring in there I just wanted to make sure that it was supposed to come out. I'll have to dig it out with a small screw driver. I wanted to make sure this was right before I start diggin. Thanks

That sounds like the packing for the low speed needle. Perfectly normal for it to be there and you'll end up replacing it with new stuff after you dig it out. It comes little rings.

Everythings in place. Unfortunateley I won't be able to test run it until Wednesday night. I will use Joe Reeves instructions for the low soeed needle adjustment. My question is where does the idle adjustment lever come into play. This is the nylon prawl mounted to the power head. The other motor I own does not have this. When you find the right idle do you adjust this lever, or is it more complicated than that.
