FONT="Century Gothic"]I have this Johnson relic that I got with an old Starcraft boat hull that I plan on restoring, and am wondering if it has any value to any of you all that may restore, or save/collect these old motors??

I have not checked compression, or anything mecanically and have no means to do so but the motor is pretty well intact. Additionally, it has the shifter/control package and cables which I would presume might be a rare commodity.

Any thoughts would be appreciated on whether this is something of value to someone here on the forum.

The Serial number is: J25750 LR and the Model is: RDS 27M

Any thoughts appreciated.[/FONT]

These motors are not rare and are not worth that much even in good running condition. You can easily put more money into restoring them than you can get out of them, especially if they need a total going over (new electricals, carb rebuild, new impeller and lower unit seals.) I've seen two in particular which are very similar to yours on the local Craigs List. They started listing them on Craigs List for $400-500, and gradually lowered the prices. I see one still being offered and the price is now $275 and it's not selling.

If you want to restore the motor for your own satisfaction and use, it's a great project. I do it all the time. But if you expect to make money on it, you probably won't.
