1965 merc 650 hp?

could someone tell me the true HP on a 1965 keikhafer merc.650 thunder bolt four short shaft ? thanks

Mercury rated at the prop before any of the other manufacturers and often under-rated the HP........

With that said...... a 1965 motor "may not" be putting out the full HP due to it's age. Parts are tough to get for those older Mercs and normally the wiring is the first thing to need replacement

I know the rest of the pack did it around '84 per some kind of govt. mandate. Just when did Merc start?

I recall, over the years, even back in the late 50's the Merc 12 hp (Hurricane?) 2 bladed prop would run circles around my 10 hp Scott Atwater. Later the red band 125 towers in the early '70's would run circles around my OMC 125. I finally got tired of it and went with the brand.

I believe that is the 4 cylinder 65hp and it's a darned powerful motor according to my dad. They were good motors. I'll bet it's every bit of 65hp at the prop.
I own 2 early 70s 3 cylinder merc 650's, and according to my dad, they're not nearly as fast and powerful as the earlier 4 cylinder models that he once owned.
