Ok so heres goes end of last year boat ran fine started coughn, hesitating ,bogging etc when throttled up..So i figured well i better clean carbs n check points....Took starter off dropped distributor housing down cleaned points, rebuilt carbs, ran fine "better" on muffs no hesitating i did only turn out idle screw about 1 1/2 turns ...Got to lake started up fine in water but when accelerating it acts like it starting to go then dies after about 50 feet ..So i stared fiddling with cable turned out screws a little bit no difference...Notice cable was freyed and primer bulb was loosing prime so called it a day ...orded fuel pump kits put them in as well as new throttle cable... Its running nice n smooth on muffs but have yet to take it to lake gnna try friday afternoon...From what i read i need to finish adjusting idle screws, I did adjust throttle stop ,and idle screw a bit having it idle a little high on muffs so hopefully itll start ok ... I also replaced the primer bulb as the other one was old..Inspected fuel lines dont see any major damage so left them be, they are cracking a little bit when u bend them but i dont think its a problem i am planning on replacing those soon also ...I dont have a timing lite to check but im assuming its ok as it ran fine the last few times i had it out last year untill it starting bogging ... I tried to do it ohm meter and dial indicator but cant tell when points open on ohm meter to well never done this before and its very touchy.. I was just wanting some ideas on what to do next /or while im on the lake if it still is bogging any suggestions , and help is of course greatly appreciated thank you sooo much !!!! Brian s.... Ohh i have 90 psi in all cylinders as well ...

Don't "tinker" with the stops or timing until you have the proper manual and tools. Making random adjustments can and will destroy the motor. From the description you are giving and the age of the motor it sound like its time to change the upper and lower crank seals.

ok I do have two manuals and been on here over the procedure several times... I had to link the carbs as I took them off and the carb was stopping the throttle not the throttle stop screw .. I did read somewhere about the seals leaking and leting in too much air but I am hoping i dont have to ...However there is oil running dwn the skeg not a lot but it does drip dwn a bit so i know the lower seal could use replacing .... If thats the case i have another motor id like to replace all the seals on first and swap it as it has 120 psi in all cylinders and looks to be in better shape all around.....I was just looking for some more things to try incas i missed something along the way as I am almost out of options except for calling a pro to come out and make sure timing is right as i just dont understand it enough to actually do it,and i dont have a timing light ...I did hook up my ohm meter and usede a dial indicator to get my btdc to try and do it that way but i cant tell when points open so i did not adjust anything with that just trying to figure it out ...I simply made sure the carbs were closed at idle , and the idle stop screw stopped the distributor not the carbs, also that the carbs were opening at full throttle as they should , and that the secondary pick up was hitting right and all seems ok !!!!!I did not touch the max timing this is far as i got....

Burnt 2cycle oil dripping off the skeg is normal as it comes out in the exhaust.
If your meter has a continuity setting you can use this to check when the points open and compare this to your TDC setting. I believe the advance setting is .235 BTDC.
The seals are relitvily easy to replace with the powerhead off.

ok thanks gotcha ..however this is the problem i cant tell with the ohm meter when points are open , it bounces around sometimes and as I advance it its hard to tell im not sure it beeps the whole time no pitch change in sound in meter either ive tried two different meters as well one was a nice fluke !!! same results how do i know when point are open while advancing. Everything else i get I just cant figure this out for the life of me ??? Hopefully u can give me a tip ??? also can i do a leak down test to test top n bottom gasket i dont think this is the problem however id like to test them if i can , held compression on compression test at 90??? Thank u soo much for all ur help !!!

;UPDATE FOR YALL ??? so went out this morning and running a lot better no bogging , just running out of throttle i beleive its just gonna be a minor adjustment of cable or timing going to a mechanics house in the morning to learn how to time these things and hopefully thatll do it somethings is off just a hair somewhere ...at full throttle it lifted up just about on plane but not quit like cable needs to pull more ???? Ill post back tomm but i definatley fixed the major problem wich i beleive mostly was fuel pumps, and old primer bulb ..
