1965 merc 900 controls

Hello everyone.

I need a set of cable for my controls. but I thought i might replace controls all together. which controls do I need? Motor serial # 1808954.

1965 900? I can't find my serial number site for mercs, but I don't think merc made any 900's,in the 60's a 950 yes, but no 900's till the 70's. If its a 1965 950, or 950SS then you should just change the shift cables, you can find them for sale on E-bay etc.

Merc did indeed make a 900E in 1965, it had very small carb throats and smaller main jets to go with. BTW you can gain almost 10 HP by throwing a set of 100HP carbs on that puppy.

Control cables should be easy to find, anything from Mid-60's to late 70's at least, would use pretty much the same cables.

BTW if you were to upgrade to a newer control box, just use your existing key switch and wiring harness (unless the newer box has the same wiring harness connector plug as yours).
