Hello,

I have a good 1965 110 153 CID GM L4 Mercruiser engine teamed with a 1965 Mercruiser 1A-1B- 1C EZ Shift Sterndrive.

Can I upgrade to a better sterndrive and keep the engine? And if so what is recommended?

Thanks,
Rick C.

Ayuh,.... It would be Much Easier to buy a complete runnin' 3.0l/ Alpha in a rotten boat, 'n swap the Whole thing,...

Probably cheaper too,...

Can you explain why? Are there no other compatible options?

Thanks,

Ayuh,... The only thing you've got that compatible with anything newer is the Long Block motor,....
A Long Block motor is just the block, 'n head, no accessories at all,...

Everything bolted to it, 'n behind it ain't,....

By the time ya scavenge the parts to use yer Long Block motor, with a newer serviceable drive,...
You've bought a donor boat that has All the tiny little Expensive pieces, so use That motor,...

There's No drive to bolt onto yer transom assembly, it's all scrap parts,...

welcome to iboats, from down the street in lincoln, ne.
don't sound like ya need anything for your boat as you seem to want to be upgrading existing equipment to more modern equipment. looks like that may be pretty hard to do though.
don't know if this will help. but here's a '66 larson, i assume w/a 1A-EZ drive on it. kinda pricy though. looks like the larson is in pretty good shape. maybe take the better of the two boats and have spare parts for the other one? just a thought.
