1965 or 1966 Propeller for my 6hp Fisherman

Greetings all,

I have a 6hp Fisherman 6502 with a plastic prop - I would like to get an aluminum one which I believe was standard.

The motor is on a 12 foot aluminum boat and may be used on a 17 foot sailboat.

I understand that the prop style changed in 1966. Research on iBoats seems to indicate that ~1956-1965 props had the pin aft and 1966 onward had the pin forward.

I've attached a photo of my prop shaft and it looks like my shaft is from a 1966 or later motor... is this possible?

My questions are "what year prop do I need 1965 and before or 1966 and after?" and "any recommendations on the standard 2 blade or something else?".

Thanks,

Wayne

Re: 1965 or 1966 Propeller for my 6hp Fisherman

Thats interesting My after market service manuals for 55 through 69 indicate all 6 hp and 5.5 hp having the pin aft under the nut/cone.
The 5hp Is a direct drive and has the pin forward. And the gear case is one piece where the 5.5 and 6 is a 2 piece.
And all the full gear shift motors of any size of that time have a 2 piece gear case with a distinct bulge at the joint yours doesn't.
Is it a full gear shift motor?

Need more help if you want to ID your motor. It appears you would be using the 5 hp prop because of the pin location.
Assuming it's the right configuration.
That is a mystery gear case as far as I can tell. Some pictures of the power head details May help.Especially where it joins the leg
,the carb and linkage ,starter mechanism.
Does it appear the power head has been on it since new?As I recall the model number is on the mounting bracket maybe that is from another motor.

Oooooops, my bad! My astigmatism bites me in the a** again... I misread my motor model (a few months ago)... after photographing he number plate (see attached photos) I now see that my motor is a 6302S - which appears to be a 1973 and, based on my research, indicates that my prop shaft is correct. Note: you might notice an odd spring in the photos - it is a temporary carb return spring and added.

Your feedback on this and proper propeller is still requested.

It does appear in my most recent manual that they streamlined the gear case a little but they still indicate a rearward pin placement.
Of course yours is ahead of the prop under the prop so to speak.more to come.

So we're calling yours a 66 with a forward pin.Pin in the underside of the prop covered by the hub.
the aft pin being through the top portion of the hub visible with the prop in place covered by the prop cone/nut.
I think it is a safe assumption.

Yes to forward pin - shear pin.
The aft pin is a cotter pin placed in the screw-on cone/nut to keep it from unscrewing.
So, after 66.
