I've been offered a 16ft 1965 starcraft . This boat has been gutted, 3/4 marine plywood cut and ready to install for flooring,
and now abandoned. Boat was bought gutted without any hardware, there is nothing to tell what style of boat
that it was when new. Present owner wanted to use a tiller motor on it, and use the boat only for big water fishing
Owner has purchased, plywood, carpeting, pedestal seats, paint, trailer, and would like it gone. It would make a nice
fishing boat to use here on saginaw bay in michigan, but I don't like the idea of a tiller motor, for how rough our water gets
at times. I know that days can be chosen to use it, but the same goes for a 14ft tiller. Your thoughts? my thoughts are a side
console. Thanks

I guess I don't get the problem with rough water, and a tiller motor.

If the water is too rough for the boat, it doesn't mater if its a tiller or a console steer.

Photos?

Is there a splash well ?

For the headache and cost involved with putting a console in, fix it, sell it, put the money you get for the boat and the money you saved by not putting a side console in the boat together and buy the boat you want.

Personally I like a dual console/walkthrough for bad/cold weather. Close the window and block the lower pass through to get out of the wind/rain/cold.

Then again, 16' is a bit small for me to be going out in larger water where things can get nasty.

Roscoe, you're right about that, I guess I was thinking about the last time I went fishing and got wet from waves hitting the transom on the i/o I was in, it was rough and if I had the 16 that day I wouldn't have been out. The boat I was in was a 23ft, we were trolling with the wind, and waves had built to 3-4's sometimes bigger, and were hitting the transom and getting us wet. Thanks for the reply.
