Attached are a couple pictures of the oil that seams to be all over the front of my motor after I take the boat out.

I haven't rebuilt the carbs because I have been told they are a nightmare on this model and I really don't have the skill set.

Let me know what you think could be causing this.

Looks normal to me but i'm no expert. I would invest in a omc repair manual. It will have pictures and tell you how to rebuild the carbs, and how to make other repairs too. My $40 manual has saved me hundreds of dollars in repairs, just this year :)

I agree with getting a manual, also mine did that when the reed valve wasn't working properly, (coughing out the carb), I only get a little bit of weeping from a leaking shut off valve that will get replaced soon.

Thanks, I have the manuals. These carbs are just notoriously complex for this year and no carb rebuild kit exists, so it is also pretty pricey. There have been a few issues I thought were problems along the way, but people have assured me that is normal for an old motor. So, this is the latest thing to pop up. Thanks for answering.

Those engines dump the carbs will you tilt them up. There is even a catcher right in front of them with a drain hose that goes to the lower cowl. My dads 1965 90 hp had the same carb system it always dumped the gas out, so did my uncles 90

Not sure why you believe that this carburetor is a " nightmare " ---Straight forward nothing to them.------Just sold one of many of those carburetors to an older gentleman.------He was delighted after searching high and low for parts.

Thanks. I have been told by several sources that this particular carburetor is very finicky. It uses a special float adjustment tool that isn't available anymore. I'm sure for some it is no problem. It is all above my knowledge and experienc. Finding anyone to work on these old motors near me has been next to impossible, so I have done most of the work myself.

The most difficult thing about that carb is setting four idle mixture needles. However it is no worse than any other 4 cylinder with 4 adjustable carbs
