Hi.i need help solving engines strange behaviour.its 40 hp electromatic motor.i took the boat out on the lake.travelet to fishing spot just fine, then did some trolling with spare motor then back to 40 ponys.she was revving real high when going from throttle to neutral.did that few times.then I got her in reverse.high rpm.what could be the problem???i bearly used this boat.2 nd time in 2 years.is it possible that is a fuel problem.sounds like engine is getting lean only on low throttle and neutral.shifter felt stiff/hard to move.what can be wrong?

If I am reading your complaint correctly, it sounds like your control cable is shot (stiff). But I don't know what you mean by ponies. Are you saying it has no power? I suppose that could be the cable too, not advancing the throttle to WOT.

Engine started fine idled fine.then when I had her at 3/4 to full for a 5 min and wanted to slow down engine started REV (not the boat speed, just engine)at idle or neutral.it has power with all means just on throttle down she revs out of this world.by ponies ment HP

First, I have to ask if you have the idle speed lever on the control in the "up" position. It is the red lever on the upper aft corner of the control. Push down for increased idle speed for cold start, raise up for normal idle speed. Yeah, I know. the knob is broken off many of them. Is yours?

Beyond that, you are going to have to do an on-site inspection to see what's going on. The throttle linkage on the motor may be sticky. Disconnect the cable from the motor and see which is hard to work, the motor or the control. Then go from there.

Warm up lever is not broken and its in up position.i disconnected the throttle cable from engine and am in the process of lubricating cable as well as controll box.that does not explain very high REV in neutral.as its cable operated and not electronically.did that few times yesterday on throttle down/ neutral cycle.boat speed did not picked up.just engine.i drained the LU oil to see water would cause some kind of short.color of oil was dull but I did not see any water.could carbs be the problem here?
