I recently picked up a 1965 16' starcraft to put back together and the motor I found for it was the one listed in the title here. I was hoping someone could tell me what kind of controls up front I will need to operate this motor. Also I did grab a manual from the library but there are two wiring schematics shown, one for the model with an alternator, and one for without. Is there any easy identifiers I use to detemine which is mine? Thanks for any and all help you can offer.

With an alternator model, you will see an 8 pole stator under the flywheel, but the easiest way to tell is that it will have two coils mounted either on the starter side or on the head.

Magneto models will have thetwo magneto coils up under the flywheel, just **** a lawn mower engine.

Assuminy the 45 is set up for remote, rare, but some did have a tiller: You can use a two handle control box and Chrysler did make a couple, but the most common control box was the single handle one. It used standard Teleflex threaded end control cables with special Chrysler ends.

Since the control system was not essentially changed until mid '90s Force, you can look on the auctions and use any control box for any size Chrysler or Force (Chrysler, US Marine, etc) over 20 horsepower up till about 1993. After that, Mercury went to Merc type controls.

If you do buy a later model Force control box, tyhe internal cable ends were a bit different but should still be available.
