I am new to boating. I have a 1966 Chrysler 50 horse power outboard. It was not running and I took off the fly wheel to check things out. It seems the timing Cam was not spinning. The Cam itself has a place for a key but the shaft has absolutely no spot for a key . I don't know how to Lock the Cam in place or even set the timing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Found answer by reading posts. Someone put wrong key in and gave up on it. They then sold it to me....

Did you have the torque specks and tool to hold the Flywheel while torqueing? I have a 1968 35 HP Chrysler that I serviced for years and a Clymer Chrysler/Force Manual was the best Reference for most on my services. I shared a lot of my services and tips under Wickware. I look at this Board every few weeks vs daily when I was actively fishing. There are some good Techs on this Board toward servicing the "Old Monsters"! When I started Boating and servicing I had good Local Parts but finally had to order the few parts I needed. My Impeller was my #1 need and I finally replaced my points and condenser.

Good Lock!

There are plenty Pics and steps I shared on most of my services. I enjoyed the services due to my Small Combustion Engines And Auto Engines I serviced.

I'll hope to Bounce Back but now I understand why I see some boats parked for years.

Bobosoltan, Please share 2 close pics of your engine and flywheel Torq spec used. Linkage Side and Rear with the hood off. I would like to compare it with my 68. Please allow the full leg to show from the rear. Since 2014, I have not given up on feeling well enough to use my boat again.
