I have a 1966 Evinrude 9.5 with the outermost parts of the transom bracket (clamps) missing. I have obtained a used replacement system which is in good shape. The outermost parts, spring, U shaped piece (which is actually two pieces that match up and hold the motor in tilt position) are a bit different (I believe that they are from a newer motor). Please forgive me as I don't know the technical terms for these parts at this time. The new mount came with the large piece that attaches to the motor with the shaft protruding out of the top and bottom and it requires removing the cowling to attach. It looks like I can remove just the left side of the lower cowling to accomplish this switch. What all do I have to take off to do this and how can I tell beforehand if my replacement part will fit?

I hope I have explained this well enough that it can be understood and thanks for the help.

is the i.d. tag still attached to the replacement bracket? if so go to marineengine.com , look up your 1966 and the model # on the new part, see if the numbers match.

I looked for ID tag and did not find one. As a matter of fact I didn't even see a spot where one used to be.

Re: 1966 Evinrude 9.5 Transom Mount

OK, found the tag on the replacement stern bracket and have looked at the parts lists. My motor is a 1966, replacement assembly comes off of a 1964. While many of the parts between the two are the same number, the swivel bracket assy. is different. The shafts at the top and bottom of the bracket are same number. It looks like only difference should be in how the clamps marry and operate in conjunction with the swivel assembly. So, will the assembly from 1964 motor fit onto the 1966 motor, what more should I look for to determine if it will work and what all will I have to remove from this motor to make that switch?

Thank you for the assistance.
